UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL
This home was built as the fulfilment of day dreams. Perhaps the greatest appeal of the home is that it built from timeless, natural materials that are easy on the eye, very restful to be in, and will never date. UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL
This home was built as the fulfilment of day dreams. Perhaps the greatest appeal of the home is that it built from timeless, natural materials that are easy on the eye, very restful to be in, and will never date. The building has 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets. The construction is pole framed, with limestone walls. Ceilings are raked, with jarrah rafters. The ceilings under the first floor have exposed marri (WA redgum) floor joists with pine ceiling lining. All the cabinetry has been built to suit the style of home, mostly in marri or jarrah timbers. The bedroom doors have also all been built to suit. Old railway sleepers were used as lintels over windows and doors, tying into the limestone walls. The outside sills are limestone.
The home was designed with passive solar design principles, and with conservatory and in-slab heating which uses water heated by the solar pool heating on the roof, or alternatively by the water jacket on the wood fire on cloudy days.
Entry to the home is through a large, rustic, jarrah front door, framed by huge railway sleepers, with a sidelight. A cloak cupboard, and shoe box seat fulfil the necessary storage needs there. The entry forms an airlock as do the laundry and conservatory. There are high quality lights, and also rustic lantern's that have been fitted out with fluoro bulbs thru out the home, providing a wonderful atmosphere.
Living area is open plan with timber and limestone all around adding to the character of the home. There is an abundance of colonial glazed windows to let in the natural light. A wood fire heater keeps the home cosy. Under the stairs, the space has been utilised to house a broom cupboard, a cosy office (all marri timber), storage cupboards and a shoe drawer.
The kitchen has a jarrah, natural edged slab as one bench top, and a unique feature concrete benchtop for the cabinet that houses the sink. The black, traditional styled gas stove is housed in it's own little alcove, complete with cut out arches that have stone sills. The large pantry is well equipped with loads of pine shelving, a bench to work on, window for light and also for bringing groceries in without traipsing dirt back and forth through the house.
Up the log framed jarrah stairs, are the loft bedrooms which are large and roomy, two of them having two dormer windows each, and the other one having a deck, which overlooks the dam and valley below. Great for sleeping out in the fresh air and under the stars on those balmy summer nights. [Less]
